Shelter 8”x8”x1.5” Free-standing or Wall mounted MDF Mixed Media Chunky

This Mixed Media artwork is one-of-a-kind with grungy layers of Acrylic and Chalk Paint in grey/grey blues with black and white marks for textural and visual interest.  This piece was made during the first lockdown, a time when around the world we all received the same firm message of Stay at Home however for this artwork, the focus is on the comfort home can bring to our lives hence the hand stamped words Shelter, Home, Sanctuary which appear within the primitive house shape made from vintage book page painted with white Gesso. Circles are repeated on this artwork. The larger circle could be viewed as a benevolent moon, looking down upon us as we sit in our homes, the words “staying at home” sitting within this circle. It could also, along with the smaller circles be representative of the “bubbles” we were advised to form. A vintage wrapped key is a nod to the locked doors and the optimism of unlocking the doors once again.  Although those were the thoughts when creating this Mixed Media artwork, ultimately the message should be one of the sanctuary our homes should be for all of us. 

This artwork has painted sides and suitable for free-standing display or utilizing the hole on the rear for wall-mounting.
