Nature 8” x 8” on MDF Panel
Layers of walnut ink, watercolour spray ink, gesso and heavy body acrylic paint on cotton rag paper, mounted to MDF panel, create the background for this one-of-a-kind Mixed Media artwork. This textural background is further enhanced with pieces of teabag paper stained with watercolour spray ink with the addition of details such as naïve handstitches onto said paper also pieces of painted copper metal sheet and fragment of found paper painted with gesso. More texture appears in the form of the focal image. This image of a leaf is stamped onto more of the stained teabag paper, bringing detail to this with handstitches. A rusted metal washer compliments the circles on the stamped leaf. The stamped word, Nature, rests upon a painted paper scrap with more handstitched detail.
This artwork is very tactile, from the juxtaposition of the textures of the background such as the softness of the stained teabag paper pieces against the roughness of the paint application and the painted metal elements in comparison to the feel of the handstitches and loose thread tail. Not only does this bring more interest to the artwork overall, it was also to represent the textures found within nature.
